J’son & Partners Analysis - Russia Ratifies Bluetooth
The Russian Communications Ministry has ratified the use of Bluetooth. The State Commission for Radio Frequencies (GKRCh) officially allowed Bluetooth to use the 2.4-2.4835 MHz band.
Bluetooth is a short-range personal area network (PAN) technology that allows separate-function mobile devices to communicate between one another. All Bluetooth devices currently operate in a range of 30 meters.
Consumer electronics and wireless device manufacturers operating in Russia will all benefit. Bluetooth can be adapted to a host of products including:
- Mobile handsets
- Notebook computers
- Network printers, peripherals and projectors
- Smart handheld devices, such as personal digital assistants (PDAs)
- Digital cameras
- MP3 players
- Mobile appliances
